Prabowo: The Difficulty of Making Farmers Welfare Because of the Very High Food Import Policy

Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo Subianto, Candidate for Presidential Number 02, when he attended the highlight of the International Disability Day held at Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jakarta on Wednesday (05/12/2018), Prabowo again highlighted the government's food import policy, and the welfare of farmers who did not go improve.

Again, Prabowo accused the food import policy of being the main cause of the lack of improvement in welfare for farmers.

"I don't know who is responsible, I myself am surprised, but this government actually allows food imports at the time of this harvest, I do not understand," said Prabowo.

Prabowo said that farmer groups had been working hard to produce Indonesian food needs. But the government does not provide protection against farmers.

"Our farmer groups, our farmers, those who produce food for us, they are not helped and protected at this time. They cannot live properly, "explained Prabowo at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel.

In fact, he said, when entering the harvest period in his agricultural fields, farmers now cannot get big results.

Prabowo also admitted he was surprised by the current system of agricultural management. Because, when the farmers enter the harvest period, the import action is often carried out by the government.

"The government openly gives import permits for food commodities, such as rice and corn, with a high value," said the former Kopassus secretary general.

Then Prabowo told of his experiences while visiting East and Central Java. At that time he heard a lot of complaints from sugar cane farmers who felt sad because their income did not improve.

"I am new from East Java, the sugar cane farmers there are very sad, I am from Klaten, rice farmers are very sad, tobacco farmers are very sad, everywhere our people don't feel there is a government that protects them, brothers and sisters," he.

During Prabowo's campaign, this was the second time to bring up the issue of government food imports. In November, Prabowo promised to bring Indonesian people to stand on their own feet by running food, energy and water self-sufficiency.

"I testify here that God willing, I will accept the mandate of the people of Indonesia, I will make Indonesia stand on our own feet!"

Prabowo, in other words, said that he would not carry out imports in the food, energy and water sectors.

"We won't import anything, brothers and sisters! We must and we are capable of self-sufficiency in food! Capable! We must also be able and capable of self-supporting energy, self-sufficiency in fuel, "he said at the time.

That is the reason why Prabowo said that the food import policy was the main cause of the lack of improvement in the welfare of farmers.
